What is fostering a dog?

Fostering with Lucky Paws is like running a doggy B&B! You provide a safe, loving space for pups while they wait for their forever homes. Fostering gives them the chance to learn, grow, and show off their true personalities — helping them find families faster.

Is fostering free?

Yes — usually! If the dog is already in the UK, fostering won’t cost you a penny for vet bills. You’ll just cover food, flea and worm treatments, and any extras like toys or grooming.
Sometimes we may fundraise to bring a dog from North Macedonia to the UK for fostering.

Do fosterers get paid?

Nope — fostering isn’t a paid role, but the rewards are priceless! You’ll be giving a dog comfort, love, and a second chance at life — plus endless cuddles and wagging tails.

What are the criteria?

If you have children aged 4–12, we’ll only match you with dogs who have passed our “child test.”
Experienced fosterers or rescue-savvy applicants may be considered individually.

The Fostering Process

Step 1: Complete the fostering application form — our version of a matchmaking quiz!
Step 2: An admin will contact you (usually within 48 hours).
Step 3: Home check – done virtually unless you live near an admin who can visit. You’ll need photo ID and proof of address.
Step 4: We’ll match you with a suitable foster dog based on your setup and their needs.
Step 5: Sign the fostering contract.
Step 6: We’ll arrange transport and set a date for your new guest’s arrival!

What support will I get?

You’ll never foster alone! After approval, we’ll add you to our Facebook foster chat for ongoing advice and support from our team and fellow fosterers.

How long will I foster for?

It varies — some dogs find homes in weeks, others take longer due to medical or behavioural needs. Whatever the timeframe, your care makes a life-changing difference.

What’s a “foster fail”?

When a foster parent decides to adopt their foster dog, that’s a “foster fail” — but really, it’s the happiest success story of all!
